The Blossom

This morning was my first trip in traffic to the office on our new scooter. It made for an interesting journey trying to watch behind me, in front of me, and to the sides as I navigated potholes, man hole covers, bumps, dips, cars, people, and other bikes. I was moving along at a pretty good clip as the traffic was flowing pretty well. It was a nice morning albeit already starting to heat up.
I almost missed it there along the curb and part of me wished I could stop and admire it for a moment but with the traffic common sense overruled my inclination. In this blistering heat of the last month, the busy traffic, the dry grass along the road and in the yards, and I am sure the high temps of the black asphalt street, there stood a testament to hope and perseverance! It was a wildflower of some kind. A single stalk of a stem, perhaps a leaf or two, and a yellow center with white petals; amazing I thought!
You know, as we journey through life, as we journey along in our church here at College Hill sometimes it can be slow going, sometimes we can feel parched and dry and think we might just dry up and blow away. But, then something happens, a bit of green in the most unlikely of places, a sprout of hope, an image of movement, a blossom of new life in the midst of struggles. I believe we are on the cusp of something new just waiting to spring up from the struggle with new life and new light ready to engage and encounter our community and world.
It is hope, it is new life, it is the knowledge and grace of a sacred space and place here at College Hill and I know we will all continue to persevere and participate in the newness of life that is beginning to spring up all around us.
It is one of the many ways we seek to be faithful to the Spirit and one another here at the Hill, where you are one of the family. Here where there is always an open door, a safe space, a warm welcome, and a place at the table.
